The University of Oregon has been engaged for the past 18 months in an extensive self-study as part of the Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities (NWCCU) re-accreditation process. The official stage of this process concludes with a visit by a team of evaluators and a formal report by the NWCCU in Spring 2007.

This website was begun as a comprehensive work area for those involved in the accreditation process, then as a reporting mechanism for the 2007 Accreditation, and ultimately as a component of the ongoing commitment to campus-wide communication and information sharing.

In recent years, the UO has engaged in two university-wide self-examinations that have produced comprehensive strategies for improvement: the Process for Change in 1996-1998 and the intensive planning in 2003-2004 for the Comprehensive Campaign launched in 2005. We see accreditation as an opportunity to engage our faculty, staff and administrators in assessing the success of those initiatives, in consolidating our gains, and in determining the extent to which changing circumstances suggest a change of strategy.

The current accreditation process has been an opportunity to prepare for and inform the change of leadership taking place at the UO as we prepared to welcome a new Senior Vice President and Provost, Dr. Linda Brady, to our campus. It is our intent that the accreditation report provide the new leadership of the university with a thoughtful summary of the University of Oregon's present circumstances and proposed trajectory.

The design and organization of the self-study has been guided by a Steering Committee with members drawn from the UO's faculty, staff, administration, and student body. A wide range of university committees and governance bodies have been consulted regarding the substantive content of the study.
